Leothon: a solution ready for implementation. Awards were given in the first business hackathon of Bank Millennium

Almost 30 hours of creative work, 100 participants, 26 mentors, dozens of practical ideas for developing the goodie app – all this was part of Leothon – the first business hackathon organised by Bank Millennium and Koźminski Venture Lab.
The participants of Leothon were to come up with ideas for development of goodie – an app, which aggregates information about promotions available in selected shops and shopping centres and is being developed by Bank Millennium.
The first place went to the Goodiefellas team and their idea to create a Goodie Wallet, a loyalty programme drawing on gamification and positioned in the smart shopping trend. The second place was taken by Koźmiński Lions with their project that assumes introducing a relationship between the level promo deals and engagement of app users. The No. 3 were Quantum Connections who made use of a chat bot in the app.
- The quality of the presented projects was very high and on a similar level. Some of the ideas are realistically implementable as stand-alone business projects. Watching there and then how ideas developed by students may be practically transferred to business was for me a fascinating experience – Ricardo Campos, the goodie CEO, said.
There were almost 200 participants applying for participation in the first business hackathon, mainly students from the Kozminski University. Because of the huge popularity the organisers decided to increase the limit of participants from 50 to 100.
Watching the contenders at work were: Chairman of the Management Board of Bank Millennium Joao Bras Jorge and Member of the Management Board of Bank Millennium, Maria Campos, goodie CEO Ricardo Campos and the Rector of Kozminski University Witold T. Bielecki. The students were supported by experienced mentors from Bank Millennium and goodie, KU professors, businessmen as well as business and marketing development experts.
– In this edition of Leothon we focused on seeking business solutions, not just technological ones. We gave participants the opportunity to understand genuine business challenges, to improve their competencies and see how good managers they are – Jan Dąbrowski from Koźmiński Venture Lab, summarised.
The winning teams received cash awards – PLN 10,000 for the first place; PLN 5,000 for the second place and PLN 3,000 for the third team. Dinner with Joao Bras Jorge, Chairman of the Management Board of Bank Millennium and Ricardo Campos, goodie CEO – were additional bonuses enjoyed by the winners.
