Millennium Docs Against Gravity among Golden Banker’s top three

Millennium Docs Against Gravity documentary films festival, supported since 15 years by Bank Millennium together with last year’s Docs Against Isolation event won popular recognition in this year’s edition of the Golden Banker plebiscite, coming second on the podium in the “Socially sensitive bank” category.

In this category online respondents voted for the most interesting actions in their opinion to do with corporate social responsibility. The online vote had a 60% weight in the final result of the competition. The other 40% came from committees comprising experts in particular fields.

Bank Millennium has been supporting the Millennium Docs Against Gravity festival for 15 years, as it became the biggest film festival in Poland. In 2020, for the first time in history, the festival adopted a hybrid formula of going online and in cinemas with a record-high audience of 170,000 people in total. Additionally during the lockdown in 2020, before the festival began, the exceptional Docs Against Isolation online event was arranged.

- We are very proud to have been thus recognised in the Golden Banker. By supporting the festival the Bank wants to share it with the broadest audience possible. In 2020 when the pandemic broke out, we did not know if it could be held. However the organisers adapted very quickly to the new reality. Even before the festival began they launched the DOCS AGAINST ISOLATION online event, also changing the festival formula in record-short time to a cinema/online one. These efforts were appreciated earlier - Artur Liebhart, director of the festival, received the Remote Culture Special Award in Paszporty Polityki for adapting quickly to the new reality and for the cinema/online formula. The award was given by the Polityka Weekly for the first time in the history of Paszporty - Iwona Jarzębska, Director of Public Relations Department in Bank Millennium, said.

- This gives great joy to everyone working for the festival! Again we proved that consistency and mutual trust in going for a common goal are most important of all. We are happy this was appreciated. We are happy to say that in 2020 together with Bank Millennium we have built the biggest film festival in Poland, which not only brings feelings and emotions out, but also helps our public expand their knowledge of the world out there - Artur Liebhart, Director of the Millennium Docs Against Gravity festival, said.

In 2020 the bank together with the organisers continued the audio description project i.e. providing a verbal description of video content by voice over the earphones. Thanks to audio description blind and visually impaired persons, senior citizens, dyslectic persons, with intellectual impairments, could take part in the festival and experience the films in cinemas as well as in virtual space. Film shows with audio description were in prime time to make them available to the broadest audience possible, and in 2020 for the first time also online, thanks to which they were available to viewers all over Poland.
