New image of WWF Millennium Mastercard

By choosing WWF Millennium Mastercard, Bank Millennium clients can support environment protection. The Bank transfers 50 PLN to WWF Poland for each main card issued. In addition, each year the organization receives special funds from the Bank for statutory activities supporting the protection of forest ecosystems. The new image of WWF Millennium Mastercard includes lynx - the largest representative of the Felidae family in Europe, which in Poland has been under strict species protection since 1995. WWF Poland contributed to the reintroduction, i.e. the restoration of over 30 lynxes into the nature in the forests of the north-eastern part of the country and 69 lynxes in north-western Poland. Currently, the Polish lynx population is estimated at ca. 150 - 200 individuals. This is not enough for this species to survive in our country without human help.

- By creating a new image of this unique card, we wanted to draw attention to a species that reflects the problems our society is facing. Destruction of forests results in the loss of convenient places to live and hide not only for lynx but also other unique animals. The forest is their home, but its degradation has far-reaching consequences. In accordance with the slogan of cooperation between Bank Millennium and WWF Polska "Forest - home for animals, breath for people, climate protection" –says Szymon Kuchciak, Head of the Payment Card Department at Bank Millennium.

- 44% of Poles believe that banks should provide tools and services that support undertaking pro-ecological and pro-social actions - according to our research. The WWF Millennium Mastercard perfectly fits these expectations, making it easier for consumers to do good for our planet in an easy way when conducting their daily activities. Offering products that help people take care of the natural environment is extremely important to us at Mastercard, which is why we are proud that together with Bank Millennium we can implement such projects –says Tomasz Owczarek, Sales and Strategy Director at the Polish branch of Mastercard Europe.

- The rate of global species extinction and the progressing loss of biodiversity require urgent actions. Therefore, we are very pleased with the long-term cooperation with Bank Millennium, because without combining pro-ecological changes made by companies with the involvement of individuals, we will not be able to stop the degradation of our planet. Bank Millennium helps us to effectively reach our clients, employees and Partners with a message that everyone should realise - Nature is our life support system, on which we all depend. The lynx situation in Poland shows how easily we can disturb fragile ecosystems. However, this story also shows that together we can rebuild what seems to have been lost. There is still a lot to do, but together we can do more -comments Jean Ekwa, Senior Communication Specialist, WWF Poland.

Bank Millennium and the Bank Millennium Foundation remember about the planet. On the eve of Earth Day, they announced a new Our People'23 internal initiative: Save the Planet, which aims to raise awareness related to protection of forests, animals, care for the climate and activities for ecology. Eco-volunteering, which will follow the initiative, will allow employees to submit proposals on how to support the planet. The best projects will be given a chance to be implemented and will receive funding.

Bank Millennium has been supporting WWF Polska since 2008. It engages its employees and clients in various initiatives. It also implements an ambitious ESG Strategy for 2022-2024. In 2022, the bank achieved the ESG Strategy target of reducing its own greenhouse gas emissions by 50% compared to 2020. It also expanded its product offer to include investment funds promoting ESG aspects.
