Bank Millennium wins “Best Bank for CSR in Central & Eastern Europe” award from Euromoney magazine

- We are very pleased with the Euromoney award. It confirms that our choice of operational strategy was right. CSR principles and projects have for years been part of our everyday life and a key component of the Bank’s medium-term strategy. Whether we create unique products, support culture or financial education – innovation is our choice. The CSR acronym, difficult to remember and to pronounce, may be explained in a perhaps mundane, yet pragmatic way – we like to help, we care for the natural environment and make life easier for clients - Joao Bras Jorge, Chairman of the Management Board of Bank Millennium said - This is exactly the approach that gives us public appreciation.

Euromoney Excellence Awards 2017 were announced on 6 June in London. In the category The Best Bank for CSR in Central and Eastern Europe only one bank was awarded – Bank Millennium. - It is hard to find a more thoughtful bank in Central and Eastern Europe – said Euromoney commenting on the rationale regarding the selection of the winner. The magazine highlights Bank Millennium’s commitment to environmental responsibility through its services and products such as e.g. the Bank’s WWF Credit Card. In the realm of social responsibility, Bank Millennium was lauded by Euromoney for its programmes and initiatives around job creation and supporting arts and culture. In addition, the magazine points out the innovations and digitisation of services, which are having a positive impact on financial inclusion in the region.

Transparency was also a key decider in the award. “Bank Millennium provides full transparency around its objectives and actions to bring socially responsible banking to clients, employees, investors and society,” - Euromoney said.

Bank Millennium is an institution, the activity of which goes out of the financial business envelope. We are transparent and quick to disclose information. We published our complete joint financial and CSR report on 2016 as one of the first companies in Poland. The CSR part is in line with the GRI international reporting standard.

We promote a 360-degree culture of innovation. This means that we offer innovative solutions both outside – to our clients, as well as within the company – giving employees a work culture, which supports creative thinking.

We are strongly supporting the digital revolution in Polish administration. Our clients can use internet banking to submit “Family 500+” applications, make use of ZUS Electronic Services Platform as well as Trusted Profile, which opens secure and convenient access to more than ten public administration services (including ePUAP, PUE ZUS, CEIDG).

Consistently we pursue our culture support programme; we are i.a. the title sponsor of Poland’s biggest documentary films festival: Millennium Docs Against Gravity. Under the aegis of Bank Millennium Foundation we are among other things implementing new national “Financial ABCs” educational programme, in which we explain basic financial terms to kindergarten kids. The first edition included over 240 workshops in 70 kindergartens all over Poland.

The Bank’s employees engage in volunteering for local communities – they conduct educational workshops, organise extracurricular activity for school children and redo classrooms. We train employees in ethical sales and adjust offered services to the needs of disabled persons. Currently 100% cash machines and 90% branches are adapted to their requirements. By reducing consumption of materials, electricity, fuels and water, we take care of the natural environment. Our stringent CSR standards have been confirmed in numerous rankings as well as by the longstanding presence in RESPECT Index – a stock market index of companies complying with best CSR and Corporate Governance standards.

The decision to grant the award is taken by a committee composed of the most experienced editors, journalists and survey team, after receiving detailed information from market participants as well as extensive annual surveys of banking and capital markets in the regions. Euromoney awards comprise several categories, in which the best banks are evaluated from close to a hundred countries worldwide.
