Golden Sceptre – award from Bank Millennium and Polish Culture Foundation for Polish Radio Theatre
(Warszawa, 1st December 2015) Yesterday Bogusław Kott, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Bank Millennium, for the 17th time presented the Golden Sceptre award. The winner this time was Polish Radio Theatre. The award chapter, chaired by Beata Tyszkiewicz, gave the award for consistency in presenting the greatest achievements of Polish and international playwrighting; focus on preserving the beauty of the Polish language; creative and inspiring presence in the life of many generations of radio audience; shaping the tastes and developing imagination of millions of Poles.
Every time the Winner is given by the sponsor the opportunity to present an award to a person or institution, which follows-up (in a broad sense) on his art or work. This year’s Winner decided to present the additional award i.e. the Small Sceptre to the City of Sopot.
The award ceremony and the accompanying concert took place on 30th November in Studio im. W. Lutosławskiego in Warszawa. A television report on the ceremony is planned to be aired in Polish Television Channel 2 on Friday, 4th December at 4:10 p.m.
The Golden Sceptre award was established in 1999 by Polish Culture Foundation and Bank Millennium. Bank Millennium – from the award’s beginning – has been its funder and sponsor of accompanying artistic events. The award is given every year to eminent Polish artists and it focuses on the creative work of an individual or group of artists; a community organisation; artistic institution; cultural or scientific movement. Its winners have been the following persons in order of appearance: Jerzy Giedroyc, Wojciech Kilar, Stanisław Lem, Roman Polański, Ewa Podleś, Sławomir Mrożek, Janusz Gajos, Tadeusz Różewicz, Maria Fołtyn, Wojciech Młynarski, Krzysztof Penderecki, Józef Wilkoń, Wiesław Myśliwski, Jerzy Stuhr, Danuta Szaflarska and Jerzy Maksymiuk.
The Golden Sceptre itself is a sceptre sculpted in bronze by Professor Krzysztof Nitsch, with the tip adorned by an individually selected precious stone. The winner also receives PLN 110,000 while the winner of the Small Sceptre gets PLN 11,000.
