#MobilnyPortretPolaka – Mobile banking gains in popularity

Already 31% of Poles use phone-based mobile banking – according to Bank Millennium’s #MobilnyPortretPolaka survey. This represents 20 percentage points growth over 2014 and more than 27 percentage points versus 2011. In Bank Millennium the number of mobile banking users at the end of Q1 2018 reached 759,000, which represents 38% growth y/y. For the first time in the bank’s history the number of logons to the mobile app exceeded the number of logons to internet banking.

The highest percentage of people using the mobile banking app is in the 18-24 age group (60.8%). This percentage falls with age. Among people who have smartphones and use mobile banking close to 31% of respondents declare that they bank mobile two-three times a month, more often than one out of four persons surveyed use it a few times a week, with more than 15% using it daily or almost daily.

The main reason why the persons surveyed use the mobile banking app is the possibility to check their bank account balance anytime (every fourth person polled) and to manage money (close to 23% of persons polled). A well-designed app and ease of managing the account with the app are each highlighted by approx. 14%.

- Banking apps keep getting improved not only with a view to adapting it to increasingly sophisticated mobile devices but first of all to users’ needs. The apps get new innovative functionalities and solutions, which help in performing more and more everyday activities in the app, including non-banking ones. Our customers like to have their bank on hand and this is why they logon to the mobile app regularly and frequently. The monthly number of logons to the app is well over the number of logons to the Millenet internet banking system – it now accounts for 58% of all logons to electronic channels.
