What democracy for the future?

It will be 15 years now since the creation of Bank Millennium, one of the first private banks in Poland. This date coincides with the fifteenth anniversary of Polish transition, which has brought fundamental changes of the country's political, economic and social system.

The enormous achievements of these years are today the object of assessment and analysis. Invariably valid however remains the question about the future of democracy: what is it like and what should it be?
 
This is exactly what eminent intellectuals will be discussing at the "What democracy has a future?" conference organised to commemorate the 15th anniversary of Bank Millennium.
 
The special guests has been invited to take part in it:

  • Prof. Samuel P. Huntington – an internationally renowned political scientist, author of the best-selling "The Clash of Civilisations"
  • Prof. Benjamin R. Barber – an internationally renowned political scientist, author of the best-selling "Jihad vs. McWorld"
  • Prof. Zygmunt Bauman – one of the most widely acclaimed sociologists and philosophers
  • Prof. Dariusz Rosati –  economist, Member of the European Parliament, former Minister of Foreign Affairs
  • The debate will be moderated by Jacek Żakowski ("Polityka" weekly, TVP - „Summa Zdarzeń").

The patrons of the conference will be opinion leaders, representatives of the academic, business and political communities as well as partners and clients of Bank Millennium S.A.
 
The debate will be held on 6 December 2004 at 11.30 a.m. in the Royal Castle in Warsaw. It will be broadcast online to students in 13 Polish universities.
 
Holding the "What democracy has a future?" debate, commemorating the 15th anniversary of Bank Millennium is part of the Bank's commitment as a good corporate citizen i.a. to develop cultural and educational initiatives.
