The aim of our cooperation with the University of Warsaw and the Camões Institute is to support education of the most talented students of Portuguese in Poland. By funding the scholarships we want to make it easier for them to gain inter-cultural and international experience during studies of the Portuguese language and culture in Portugal Joao Bras Jorge, Chairman of the Management Board of Bank Millennium, said. -As a bank whose main shareholder is Millennium bcp Portugal’s biggest private bank, we are happy to support projects, which promote the history and culture of Portugal in Poland. We know that such actions bear fruit in the future, also in the area of business, which is becoming supranational and requires high cultural sensitivity.

The ceremonial signing of the cooperation agreement took place on October 10, 2023 at the Kazimierzowski Palace in Warsaw. The document was signed by: The Chairman of the Management Board of Bank Millennium Joao Bras Jorge, Rector of the University of Warsaw Professor Alojzy Nowak and the Ambassador of Portugal in Warsaw, His Excellency Luís Cabaço. The idea of the agreement, signed for the next three academic years, is to support development and expanding of inter-cultural experiences of Polish students, promoting Portuguese language and culture teaching in Poland, as well as granting scientific scholarships, which make possible studying in Portugal as well as rewarding the best students in the Institute of Iberian and Ibero-American Studies of the University of Warsaw. Bank Millennium has been funding scholarships for the best students since 2013.

- Once again, it is with great satisfaction that we have extended the cooperation agreement between the University of Warsaw, Bank Millennium and the Camões Institute for another three years. The idea of the scholarship was born thanks to the initiative of a language course organised by the Camões Institute at the University of Warsaw in the academic year 2015/2016. The resulting partnership is a valuable contribution to the teaching and learning of the Portuguese language and culture at the Faculty of Iberian and Ibero-American Studies at the University of Warsaw. It contributes to maintaining a high level of Polish students in university Portuguese studies.

On the other hand, I would like to thank Bank Millennium not only for continuing the agreement, but also for almost doubling the value of the scholarship. This support, in addition to enabling the winning students to take a summer course at a Portuguese university, creates an opportunity to initiate new projects and academic exchanges that can strengthen and tighten the relationship between Warsaw’s Portuguese Studies and Portuguese universities- said the Portuguese Ambassador to Warsaw, His Excellency Luís Cabaço.

- In recent years, the number of students and academics taking courses and internships in Portugal and the number of people from Portugal studying in Poland has been increasing. This shows that our international cooperation is developing very well. The Camões Institute is an institution, which disseminates Portuguese language and culture teaching abroad and promotes the Portuguese language.
