16th of October is the national day of cashless payments

Can we already live without cash on an everyday basis? The answer seems to be positive. We increasingly more often make transfers, pay with cards or phone. Since the beginning of the year, Bank Millennium individual clients have executed as many as 307 million cashless transactions*. According to the survey #MobilePortraitofPoles, 42% of Poles would find leaving their mobile at home more annoying than forgetting their wallet. These data speak for themselves.
- How fast we have been breaking our habit of using cash can be seen in statistics. For example, we have been observing a very fast increase in the number of mobile contactless transactions. In Q3 2018, our clients made more than 2 million such transactions in payment terminals. We compared this value against Q3 2017 and observed more than 200% growth year on year. It has been also demonstrated in our survey – Poles are willing to make mobile transactions with their smartphones – says Iwona Jarzębska, Director of the Public Relations Department at Bank Millennium.
#MobilePortraitofPoles demonstrates that already 31% Poles use mobile banking in their phones. The respondents also willingly make cashless transactions. From among mobile banking users:
- 75% pay for their shopping in online shops via mobile banking;
- 58% pay in this way their bills/rents;
- 41% pay with BLIK;
- 30% make mobile contactless payments;
We also perform mobile payments for travel and transportation insurance or for transport tickets. Also, we use this payment option for car parks. 11% of smartphone users declare purchasing insurance via this channel. 16% of smartphone users declare purchasing via this channel coach or railway tickets and 13% - purchasing city transport tickets. Already 7% of smartphone users perform mobile payments for car parks.
* Total of transfers (excluding transfers between clients own accounts), cashless transactions made with plastic cards, HCE transactions and BLIK payments.
#MobilePortraitofPoles survey: the survey was conducted by Instytut Badań Rynkowych i Społecznych IBRiS upon request of Bank Millennium in December 2017 on a representative, 1000-person nationwide sample of Poles aged 18 and above. Surveying technique: CATI.
