Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival

The 19th edition of the MDAG festival is already behind us. 8 towns, more than 138 thous. viewers!

In 19th edition of the Millennium Docs Against Gravity festival as many as 138 069 persons took part. It is over 4 thous. more than in 2021. Bank Millennium has been sponsor of the event for 17 years now. The Bank is also the founder of the Festival's main prize - and in 2022 also two special awards for Ukrainian creators. Besides, within the Festival, the Bank has been continuing its audio-description project assisting persons with sight disabilities to participate in the film shows.

For the third time the Festival was organised in a hybrid formula. Shows were held in cinemas in 8 Polish cities to attract 74 446. viewers. On-line part was attended by 63 623 viewers. As every year, during the Festival there were many interesting discussions and debates and only in its on-line part, 16 virtual meetings were attended by 86 271 persons.

As many as 192 films were presented at the Festival accompanies with meetings with creators and protagonists as well as debates focusing on important themes presented on screens, and musical events. The Millennium Docs Against Gravity is a fascinating trip around the world and through many important themes – from ecology through politics, psychology, human rights, art (including avantgarde), pop culture to family relations.

The Festival is the highest quality documentary cinema, a huge resource of knowledge, emotions and impression as well as valuable discussions. It vividly responds to the changing world and looks closely on the most current topics. Due to a its rich and carefully selected programme the Festival draws a huge number of viewers to the screens. The full-length documentary film, a form of cinematic art consistently promoted by Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival, is gaining an increasing audience all over Poland! It is our key project within the patronage of cultures, it is developing wonderfully and we are extremely proud of it – says Iwona Jarzębska, Director of the Public Relations Department at Bank Millennium.

In view of the current situation in Ukraine besides the main prize of the festival, the Bank decided to fund two special awards for Ukrainian artists – for the director of the best Ukrainian film and the best project of a new film from Eastern Europe. They were received by Oleksiy Radynski for the film "Infinity according to Florian" and Tetiana Dorodnitsyna and Andriy Litvinenko for the project of the film "Mother of Angels".

As part of the festival, Bank Millennium continues the audio description project, thanks to which selected films are available to people with visual and hearing disabilities. During the Festival, selected films and shows feature subtitles for persons with impaired hearing as well as with the option of a voice description, through headphones, of the visual content. In this way blind and visually impaired persons, senior citizens as well as dyslectics and intellectually impaired persons can attend the festival without restrictions and enjoy the latest documentary productions from the whole world, at cinemas and on line.

The dates of the next i.e. 20th edition of Millennium Docs Against Gravity are already known – the cinema part will be held on 12-21 May, while the online part will be offered from 23 May until 4 June 2023. Enjoy!
