Bank Millennium Special Award for a film project from Ukraine

17.05.2022

During the 19th edition of the Millennium Docs Against Gravity festival, Bank Millennium funded a special award for the best project of a new film from Eastern Europe. It was awarded to authors from Ukraine, Tetiana Dorodnitsyna and Andriy Litvinienko, for the project of the film "Mother of Angels".

Bank Millennium has been sponsoring the Festival and funding the Grand Prix already since 17 years. This year, it decided to fund two special awards – for the director of the best Ukrainian film and the best project of a new film from Eastern Europe.

"What is happening across our eastern border cannot go unnoticed. We know how important it is now to support the citizens of Ukraine, but also young artists who want to show us the world as it is, while forcing us to a powerful reflection. That is why we decided to fund this year, in addition to the Grand Prix, two additional awards of Bank Millennium – said Anna Gregorczyk, presenting the award on behalf of Bank Millennium.

The project of the film "Mother of Angels", telling the story of heroines who do not leave the war-torn country because they feel responsible for animals in their care, has all the hallmarks to become, on the one hand, a very intimate and touching story, on the other, a universal and clear story for people around the world. It is a story that forces us to rethink the essence of humanity.

The Millennium Docs Against Gravity festival raises the most valid problems. Every year, the festival program includes i.a. Ukrainian films, which today, in the face of war, takes on a new, special meaning. The creators of the festival believe that showing and watching Ukrainian films and learning about Ukrainian culture and history is an important expression of solidarity with Ukraine and a way to get closer to its citizens.

This year the Millennium Docs Against Gravity festival will again be held in hybrid formula: on 13-22 May in cinemas of eight cities in Poland: Warsaw, Wrocław, Gdynia, Poznań, Katowice, Lublin, Bydgoszcz and for the first time in Łódź. The online part of the Festival will be from 24 May to 5 June at www.mdag.pl.
