Update the browserZachęta – National Gallery of Art together with the Bank Millennium Foundation invite you to a new film series Se(a)ns sztuki – a project that combines cinema with reflection on art and culture. The programme will be inaugurated by a screening of the film The Best Offer directed by Giuseppe Tornatore, which will take place on 25 June in the intimate Zachęta cinema. Tickets for the screenings will be available at the price of PLN 5. As part of the cooperation, short films promoting the programme and works from the Zachęta collection will also be created.
Se(a)ns sztuki is more than just a film review. It is an original programme created by people working at Zachęta – curators, educators, people from the technical team, the communication department and the collections. The selection of films is therefore not only substantive, but also personal – it is a story about what moves, inspires or disturbs us in art, the world and the image.
- We wanted to look at cinema as a space for dialogue about art and modernity. The programme is created within the institution, is rooted in its daily practice and develops in the rhythm of our exhibition, educational and public activities. Sometimes we return to selected topics – for example, as part of "zooms" – in-depth meetings with different perspectives – says Łukasz Adamski, deputy director of Zachęta.
The repertoire will include both single screenings of cinema hits and smaller thematic blocks – devoted, among others, to artists and cultural institutions, the aesthetics of everyday life, visual memory or the role of art in a changing society. The audience will have the opportunity to see such films as "The Square", "Titanic", "Bean: The Ultimate Disaster Movie", "Call Me By Your Name", "I Don't Like Mondays" and "Frida".
Individual editions of the programme will be enriched with an educational context – short lectures, conversations with invited guests, presentations of works from the Zachęta collection or participatory activities. The project is open and accessible – addressed to both art lovers and those for whom the screening will be an opportunity to visit the gallery for the first time. The support from the Bank Millennium Foundation enables the organisation of events at a high substantive and organisational level, and at the same time strengthens the accessibility of culture and the development of visual competences of recipients of all ages.
- The Bank Millennium Foundation has been supporting culture and art in Poland for 35 years, with the conviction that they shape our sensitivity, identity and community. The Se(a)ns sztuki project is a unique opportunity for us to talk about art through cinema in an accessible, engaging and inspiring way. The partnership with Zachęta fits perfectly into our strategy and striving to create a space for dialogue and reflection, where everyone can find a space for themselves – says Iwona Jarzębska, Chairwoman of the Bank Millennium Foundation.
The history of Bank Millennium Foundation and of Bank Millennium is inextricably linked to culture. Right from the very start of its business activity i.e. from close to 40 years, the Foundation and the Bank have been engaged in providing access to and promoting culture in Poland. They support nationwide and local initiatives, both niche and popular art. They are a sponsor of culture 360°, promoting art in almost all its forms, including film, music, theatre, photography and painting, sculpture, literature and performance. Bank Millennium Foundation focuses on three areas of activity – in addition to cultural education, it supports financial education and promotes volunteering.
